Oxford is the perfect place to head for a romantic weekend or maybe for a special occasion. This beautiful and picturesque city is famous for its university, as well as being a prime location for many TV Shows and Films.

In this blog, our Oxford hotel explores the reason why the City of Dreaming Spires should be on your 2020 bucket list. Read on and begin planning your staycation…

Discover the architecture

Oxford is famous for its Universities as well as the stunning architecture and history that surrounds many of its famous buildings. Head to Christ Church (part of the Oxford University colleges) and admire the stunning work of Sir Christopher Wren. Plus if the building looks familiar, that’s because it been the backdrop for many of the Harry Potter films. The Radcliffe Camera is another of Oxford’s most stunning buildings and is only a 6-minute walk from our boutique hotel. Built-in the 1700’s, it’s part of the Bodleian Libraries and the earliest example of a circular library!

Check out the rest of the stunning buildings here!

Lose yourself in History

As well as the University buildings, Oxford is also home to different kinds of history. Take the Oxford Castle and Prison for example which was only decommissioned as a prison in 1996.

Blackwell’s Bookshop is also full of history, it’s the largest academic and specialist bookseller in the UK and a huge part of educational life for the Uni students! Head to the Normington Room where they have over 3 miles of shelving – it’s even earned a place in the Guinness Book of Records!

Admire the scenery

We’ve mentioned it many times before, but taking a punt down the River Cherwell really is one of the best ways to relax and take in the scenery! It’s a romantic activity so its perfect if you’re wanting to ask an important question!

The University of Oxford Botanic Garden was founded in 1621 and it has a world-class position in terms of history and academic location. It’s been designed as a place of beauty, something which our boutique hotel can definitely agree with!

Eat delicious food

When you stay with our Oxford hotel you’ll be treated to a delicious continental breakfast the next morning, full of artisan bread, cheeses, fruit juice, tea, coffee and prosecco. But what about other food?

Oxford is full of amazing restaurants and cafes so you’ll never be stuck for choice. Discover French-inspired cuisine at Brasserie Blanc or head to Oli’s Thai for a relaxing and chilled meal.  For a quick bite to eat, or a delicious cup of coffee we recommend Cafe CoCo or Skogen Kitchen for a Swedish twist.

Our team will be more than happy to recommend more places to eat and drink!
