The beauty of blenheim, visit churchill’s birthplace this summer near our hotel in oxford

A quick 20 minutes from our boutique hotel in Oxford, Blenheim Palace is a must-see during your stay with us. This famous Palace features prominently in the film about Churchill’s life due out this June.

Steeped in history, the monumental country house was a gift from Queen Anne to the Duke of Marlborough, John Churchill to honour his victory over the French at the battle of Blenheim in 1704.

Today, the Palace is known as one of the grandest private homes in Britain and remains a family home for Jamie Blandford, 12th Duke of Marlborough

Designed by our namesake John Vanbrugh (who also designed Vanbrugh House hotel), Blenheim Palace is a masterpiece of flamboyant Baroque architecture.

See the masterpiece in all its glory, just a short drive from our boutique hotel in Oxford…

With more than 180 rooms, the Palace looks over a 2,000-acre park laid out by Capability Brown, the leading landscape gardener of his day.

During his lifetime, Winston Churchill, Britain’s greatest wartime leader proclaimed his love for Blenheim Palace.

Acting as the Churchill family seat for over three hundred years, Churchill was baptised at Blenheim and the Palace now houses a permanent Churchill exhibition.

Churchill took huge pride in his ancestry, he remained close to his cousins and was a regular guest at Blenheim throughout his life.

Why not walk through the major milestones in Churchill’s life such as The Temple of Diana where he proposed to his future wife, Clementine Hozier, in 1908. His grave is just outside the park at St Martin’s Church, among the tombs of his Churchill relations.
