Oxford's Schools

Oxford is home to a cluster of Britain’s best-known independent schools, attracting pupils from around the world. Vanbrugh House Hotel is the perfect base for attending open days and visiting our schools throughout the year.

Christ College Oxford

Independent Secondary Schools:

Oxford High School for Girls
Highly selective and an academic powerhouse based on three sites beside each other. They operate as a ‘through school’ whereby students benefit from shared teaching, facilities, support and expertise from age 4 to 18.

Magdalen College School
Founded in 1480 and linked to the University’s Magdalen College.  Magdalen’s is a day school, ideal for academic high-achievers. For boys aged 7 to 18, with girls in the sixth form.

St Edward’s School
Set in its own extensive grounds in north Oxford. St Edward’s takes boarding and day pupils, both boys and girls, from 13 to 18.  It has excellent facilities for sport, art and music. The school is for all-rounders of mixed abilities.

Radley College
Traditional all-male boarding school with an excellent academic and sporting reputation. Six miles from the city in a country setting.

Wychwood School
All-girls school in central Oxford with a friendly atmosphere. Full-time weekly boarders plus daygirls, aged from 11 to 18.

Prep/Junior Schools:

The Dragon School
Perhaps the country’s most famous co-educational preparatory school with riverside playing fields and excellent facilities. The Dragon School takes pupils from 8 to 13.

Summer Fields School
A long-established, traditional, boys’ preparatory school with 70 acres of ground, including golf course, in North Oxford. Summer Fields School feeds most of Britain’s leading senior schools. They take pupils from 8 to 13 and while they are principally a boarding school they take some day pupils.

Language Schools:

Many choose Oxford as an attractive destination for learning English. Among the best-known schools are:

EF International Language School
Regent Oxford
Eckersley School of English

Oxford College
